Fed: Lobby questions whether govt will meet defence promises
A defence lobby group is questioning if the existing government and future governments
will meet future defence commitments which have been made in today's Defence White Paper.
Australian Defence Association executive director MICHAEL O'CONNOR says the amount
expected to be committed in the paper should be enough.
The paper is expected to commit at least $500 million extra to defence next year and
funding increases of around three per cent annually for the rest of the decade.
Mr O'CONNOR's told Channel Nine the real question is whether the current government
and successive governments will meet the commitments, because they haven't done so in
the past.
