Argentina win to begin field hockey title defense

AMSTELVEEN, Netherlands (AP) — A brilliant solo goal by field hockey great Luciana Aymar helped Argentina beat England 1-0 and launch its bid for a fourth successive Women's Champions Trophy title on Saturday.

The Olympic champion Netherlands handled Australia 3-0, Germany pipped New Zealand 1-0, and China and South Korea finished 2-2 in the first Champions Trophy expanded to eight teams.

England had the better first half against Argentina, but the latter put more pressure on the England circle after the break. It took a magic effort from Aymar, the seven-time player of the year, to break the deadlock in the 52nd minute.
